Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are the benefits of using natural soy wax candles?
Natural soy wax is derived from renewable resources and offers a clean, consistent burn with minimal soot. It’s an excellent choice for those who want a longer-lasting candle that maintains its appearance over time, making it ideal for sculptural and pillar candles.
2. Why aren’t your sculptural and pillar candles scented?
Our sculptural and pillar candles are designed to focus on aesthetics and maintaining their natural look. The melt pool of sculptural and pillar candles doesn’t get hot enough to effectively disperse fragrance throughout a room, unlike container candles. Additionally, some fragrances can cause discolouration, so we keep our candles unscented to ensure they stay looking pristine.
3. Why does my soy wax candle have a frosty or white appearance?
While we take steps to minimise the appearance of frosting, it’s a natural characteristic of soy wax that can sometimes occur. This frosty look doesn’t impact the quality or burn of the candle and is simply a sign of its natural composition. Keeping your candles in a cool, dry place can help reduce frosting.
4. How long do soy wax pillar candles typically burn?
Soy wax pillar candles are known for their longer burn times. Burn times vary based on the size and shape of the candle. For our pillar candles, you can expect a burn time of approximately 40-50 hours for a medium/large sized candle (around 7.5 cm in diameter). Sculptural candles, which are often smaller and more intricate, typically burn for about 10-20 hours. The exact burn time will depend on the candle's height and design, with larger and taller candles generally lasting longer.
5. What should I do with the leftover wax after my candle burns out?
Leftover wax can be repurposed by melting it in a wax warmer or combining it with other wax remnants to create a new candle. This is a great way to extend the life of your candles and reduce waste.
6. Do I need to burn my sculptural and pillar candles, or can they be used as décor?
You don’t need to burn our sculptural and pillar candles to enjoy them. They’re designed to be beautiful décor pieces that can enhance your space just as they are. Whether you choose to light them or display them as part of your home’s aesthetic, they add a unique and elegant touch to any room.
7. What should I do if wax drips down the sides of my sculptural candle?
Wax dripping down the sides of your sculptural candle is not only expected but is part of its design. Due to their unique shapes and sizes, these candles are meant to melt in a way that adds to their individuality. This process is a beautiful reflection of the wabi-sabi philosophy, which celebrates the beauty in imperfection. The drips create a one-of-a-kind piece that adds character and a special touch to your décor, making each candle uniquely yours.
Care and Safety
- Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to 5mm.
- Place your candle on a heat-resistant tray or plate to collect dripping wax.
- Light your candle in a well-ventilated space, away from draughts and flammable materials.
- Burn for at least 1 hour to create a melt pool but for no longer than 3 hours at a time. Different sized pillars and sculptural candles will have different burn times. Keep an eye on the size of your melt pool and extinguish when it is nearing the outer rim but before it has overflowed and melted down the side. This will create a memory ring which will keep your future melt pools inside of the memory ring. If your wax does overflow, embrace the beauty of “wabi sabi – finding beauty in imperfection”.
- If burning multiple candles, place them at least 10cm apart.
- Before relighting your candle, trim your wick to 5mm and remove any wick debris, including any dust build up.
- When the wax is 1cm from the base, stop burning and discard your candle.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Always keep out of reach of pets and children.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight as constant sunlight can discolour the wax.
